Rush Live delivers Upcycling, colour, trends & creative hairdressing – THE RUSH WAY

The Rush London Artistic Team recently shared their skills, knowledge and inspiration with hundreds of hairdressers during their live showcase – Rush Live which was held in the historic Clock Tower building in Croydon. The event, consisting of four live shows over two days where the Rush Artistic Team presented its latest collections – Eco Rush, Misconception and Cyber-eight.

The haunting video opening of David Cook’s sublime version of Billie Jean showcased all eight-finalist collections in the 2009 British Hairdressing Awards, and then it was over to International Artistic Director Andy Heasman and International Colour Director Chris Williams to introduce ‘Upcycling’.

‘Upcycling’ was the buzzword for the first section of the show, which saw Andy Heasman and Chris Williams introduce Eco Rush, a collection inspired by the world’s economic crisis. Designers and artists are giving discarded items a new lease of life in a different form. Eco Rush takes classic techniques and re-utilises them, giving the shapes a contemporary feel. Cuts are enhanced with layers of brick and leather shades giving a versatile, earth finish to these recycled looks. Both short and long hair had been ‘Upcycled’, giving it a fresh feel and one that could easily be transferred to salon clients.

Misconception was the second collection presented by the Rush Artistic Team. All may not be as it seems with Misconception. Twisted, distorted balances that create an illusion to the eye. Shapes appear to be both soft and graphic with opposing and contrasting lengths and textures. Bold sections of oil on water shades give the shapes a 4D appearance creating visually seamless looks that appear balanced. One closely inspected, these shapes tell a different story. Misconception was presented by members of the Rush Artistic Team, with UK Education Director Dimitri Loizi leading the presentation along with Rush Advanced Academy Manager Paola Fattorusso and Artistic Team member Sam Burnett.

International Editorial Director Tina Farey brought her finalist for Avant Garde Hairdresser of the Year collection – Cyber-eight to life. Cyber-eight is an eclectic collection inspired by the influences of the 80’s, Pop Art and Anthony Lister. It combines a futuristic concept of 3D characters in a comic book. The collection portrays characters of a virtual reality that reflects the potential destruction of the future. To bring the presentation to a close, members of the Rush International Art Team, including a previous winner of the Rush Factor Isabella Hyde, Artistic Team member Lorenzo Favata and finalist for the Newcomer of the Year, Matt Stopps showed just what makes them one of the most exciting educational teams in the hairdressing world today. Polished and professional at all times the team execute cut and colour perfectly – inspiring, motivating and enthralling their audience.

“You have to create something new and unique to be truly successful. We aim to stamp our mark in history, creating forward thinking hairstyles, the Rush way,” adds International Creative Director Stelios Andrew. Rush Live demonstrated direction and style The Rush Way – Passion Quality Creativity and Professionalism.
