POETICA is a futuristic bricolage of East meets West. Chinese cheongsams, Japanese kimonos and Korean hanboks combine with modern sportswear and utility fashion for new tribes of techno nomads, offbeat courtesans and virtual vagabonds
INSPIRATION
Drawing on inspiration from global influences of the past and an imagined future, POETICA presents a futuristic bricolage of East meets West. Chinese cheong-sams, Japanese kimonos and Korean hanboks are combined with modern sportswear and utility fashion for new tribes of techno nomads, offbeat courtesans and virtual vagabonds.
Techno bobs are disrupted versions of the iconic Sassoon look with disconnected elliptical sections and concentric layering. Colour distorts across the surface of deconstructed layers; pure minimalist cuts give strength to dramatic texture. Structured curls with an intricately wound directional flow are coloured to a high resolution iridescence.
OIRAN
The hachi monji or figure of 8 walk was created by the high ranking courtesans or Oiran of Japan. These intoxicating women of pleasure became fêted fashion leaders in their own right drawing thousands of admirers at the yearly Dream Parade of Echigo.
2046
In the year 2046 director Wong Kar-wei dreams of a global dystopia in which humans strive to find love across time and space. The traditional cheong-sam is the visual link that connects the lovers, holding memories in its fabric’s textural depth.
HANBOK
The ancient Korean hanbok combines a chima or full, empire-line skirt with a long sleeved jeogori or long-sleeved top. Today it’s bi-colour combinations and distinctive long ties have moved from the streets of Seoul into catwalk fashion. This presentation pushes the look into the future, re-imagining its form and function.
